[ There’s a man in science blue standing next to the fountain, looking cold and grumpy as he shakes his device. ]

Damn interference… Enterprise, this is McCoy. I don’t know what the hell happened with those infernal transporters, but I’m damn sure I ain’t where I’m supposed to be. Scott, can you hear me? Jim? Uhura? Sulu? Chekov? Chapel? Anyone?

… Spock?

[ Nothing, not even the hobgoblin. Dammit. ]

Right, well. Looks like I’ll try and blend in. Christmas music and all...

[ Except since his communicator couldn’t reach the Enterprise, it broadcasted his conversation to the entire city instead… ]

Clearly the answer is to make them portable, but I've been told harassing newcomers for their tech is rude. It's much more socially acceptable to welcome them and introduce yourself.

But I say that's a load of crap. I say- what better to make someone feel welcome than to talk about their quote unquote world?

Like I said, I'm not an engineer. I'm a doctor. If you want me to talk about medical technology, that I can do. Transporters, though? You're out of luck.

Technology is technology - if yours can teleport hearts and kidneys from one body to another, that's worth talking about. If your x-rays can do more than show us pictures from textbooks, that's worth talking about. I'll cry later about the transporters.

Tony Stark- and I was thoroughly convinced by your attempts to blend in.

No teleporting, but x-rays are just plain antique. Dermal regenerators and tricorders, though, those'd be new to you if you don't know about transporters.

I assume that means you can completely recreate and reconstruct skin. If we're talking tech here, it's not an ointment.

Tricorders, though. Just sounds like a bad name for tripods.

Essentially. Not always "re-", either. It can also be used to get rid of scars, if you're so inclined.

[ Luckily for Tony, McCoy enjoys talking about his work. ]

They're a sensing device. You can also store information on them. Mine's medical, though; if I had a patient in front of me, I could scan 'em with my tricorder and get diagnostic information, scans of the patient or a specific part of the patient, and even analyze samples.

It's portable. And it has limits, but I'm from the 23rd century. You're from... what, the 21st? [ Tessa had said "around 2000" was the most common, so he's guessing. ] Think we've made a few advancements since then.
