I suppose that would make sense to follow it with a tradition of everyone getting the same cold. [She can tease because she's not thinking of any horrible transmittable diseases.]

Oh! Is this your first curse then? I know we have them frequently, but sometimes you aren't affected right away.

[ He just makes a face. Even in his time, they still haven't cured the common cold. ]

Second. The first one was all that Christmas music -- the day I arrived, actually.

Oh, that one was festive. [She smiles and then it fades a little.] Maybe a little consuming. And a little hard to sleep during though I suppose I like it better than ticking sounds.

It was confusing to arrive to, I'll give it that.

I can only imagine. Welcome to the City, have a Christmas song. Does your world have Christmas? That would have to make it even stranger if it didn't.

It does, though it's not celebrated as widely. [ Different planets, for one thing, and a lot of religion has fallen by the wayside. ]

Yes, my world is something like that too. [Different history. Christianity never had the same sort of rise.] I've learned more about it here. The traditions are nice though.

Is anyone else from your home here? [Always looking after new arrivals.]

They're not bad. This one in particular has never been a favorite of mine, though.

[ Oh. That question. He hates that question. ] Not that I know of.

No? That's too bad. You seemed very good at it. [Yeah, she just said that.]

But I'm sorry to hear that. Have you been able to find somewhere to stay and work? [And a smile as she pauses for breath.] Ah, I don't mean to be intrusive. I work at the Welcome Center.

[ Clearing his throat. Wow. Awkward. ] I used to be married. I've had practice.

[ OH HURRAY MOVING ON-- ] I'm in training at the hospital. [ Eyeroll. ] I'm a good two centuries ahead of the technology they have, so I've got to learn how to use archaic medical tools.

Two centuries? Oh my. My own world is a little advanced compared to much of what is here, but that must be a startling difference.

It's not fun. [ Not that he's opposed to history -- he actually rather like it -- but having to deal with it constantly is kind of a pain in the ass. ]

It must be frustrating. Especially when you want to help people and feel more limited in what you can do.

It is. [ He hates it. He's a damn good doctor, limited tools inside, but he knows he could do more with better ones. ]

There are skilled people here. Maybe you could collaborate with someone to have some of them constructed if we have the materials and you knew how they worked. I seem to recall Tony Stark building things. [She is all about people working together for the common good here.]

I've had a few people want to take a look. I'm not an engineer, though -- I can give the basics, but I don't know about that rest. [ But god, would it be handy. ]

Of course. I knew how to pilot a knightmare frame, but I'd never know how to tell someone to construct one. Not that I would want to of course.

A knightmare frame?

Oh, yes, it's a vehicle and a weapon. They are large. About ten times the size of a person, but they are shaped like a person with arms and legs, a torso, and a head. They can move over streets and some of the newer models can fly and they have advanced weapon systems. They're usually used in combat.

... I'm glad I'm a doctor and not a pilot.

[She smiles at that.] I know how to pilot one, but I'm no knight or soldier or pilot for that matter.
